The article deals with the issue of the relevance of the formation of functional literacy in the context of modern educational trends among students of specialized schools. The ability to apply knowledge in practice, in modern situations of daily activity is a reflection of functional literacy. The article also discusses the role of a teacher in the formation of functional literacy of students. The task of the teacher is to create pedagogical conditions, organize training in such a way as to attract schoolchildren to the educational process as much as possible, through the development and increase of cognitive activity. Internal motivation of the child, interest in the material being studied will allow achieving a positive result. The correct choice of pedagogical approach, methodological aspect, organization of students' activities, the use of electronic educational resources, technical means of teaching when planning a lesson leads to the expected results.
The authors present the data of the questionnaire analysis to determine the level of methodological competence, preferences of teachers of methods and techniques in chemistry lessons for the formation of chemical literacy. Also, special attention is paid to the use of practice-oriented teaching method and case study method in chemistry lessons at a music specialized school. Solving the tasks assigned to students through problematic situations form and develop creative potential, cognitive activity is activated, and hence mental, search activity, the ability to analyze and argue the acquired knowledge and skills.
