Abstract

Primary school students have shown increasing interest in utilizing programming tools like Scratch to foster their computational thinking and creative abilities. Turkey is one of the countries that actively uses Scratch in its educational system to promote these skills. In this article, we will look at a meta-analysis of doctoral dissertations that explore the impact of Scratch on the creative abilities of students in Turkey.

The meta-analysis was conducted on the basis of 15 doctoral dissertations completed between 2010 and 2022. Dissertations were devoted to various aspects of Scratch and its impact on creativity, computational thinking and problem-solving skills of school students.

The results of the meta-analysis show that the use of Scratch has a positive effect on the creative abilities of students. In particular, students who worked with Scratch turned out to be more creative, innovative and flexible in their thinking compared to those who did not use Scratch. It has also been found that using Scratch improves students' problem-solving skills and their ability to collaborate and communicate effectively.

In addition, meta-analysis has shown that the use of Scratch in the classroom can have a positive impact on the motivation of students to learn. Students who worked with Scratch showed more interest and involvement in learning compared to those who did not use Scratch. This can be explained by the fact that Scratch allows students to create and explore their ideas in a fun and interactive way.

In general, a meta-analysis of doctoral dissertations conducted using Scratch in Turkey shows that the use of this software has a positive impact on students' creativity, problem-solving skills and motivation to study. This reinforces the importance of integrating Scratch and other programming tools into elementary school curricula to promote the development of computational thinking and creative skills in students.
