This article discusses the methodological and theoretical foundations of the formation of ecological and pedagogical competence in the process of methodological training of biology students at the university, namely trends and approaches, patterns and principles. The target component of the model of the methodology for the formation of ecological and pedagogical competence of biology students is identified based on the analysis of the goals of pedagogical education and the tasks of methodological training in a modern university in the conditions of the greening of society and education. Based on the analysis of the procedural component, the stages, forms, methods, means and technologies of the formation of ecological and pedagogical competence are established. The content component is divided into cognitive, activity, value-oriented components that reflect knowledge about the goals, objectives, content, forms, methods and means of environmental education. Special attention is paid to the indicators of assimilation of the content of ecological and pedagogical competence, i.e. the content of the components of information competence.
