The article provides a theoretical analysis of the basic concepts of digitalization and digital technologies in the professional activities of teachers.  The content, methods and types of organization of professional development of teachers, computer literacy and information culture of teachers are described, directions for organizing the learning process in connection with the accelerated development of digital technologies are developed. In addition, the importance of developing the information abilities of teachers, self-education and self-processing of various information is emphasized. The concepts of digitalization and digitalization of education are clarified. Digitalization is the process of ensuring the effective use of information and communication technologies in the educational system, as well as ensuring access to education, and it is also highlighted that digitalization in education is the process of transition to an electronic learning system and is aimed at ensuring the continuity of the educational process.

The article provides a study that allows us to show the current state of the use of digital technologies in higher education institutions and identify problem areas. The results of the study showed that the use of digital technologies by university teachers remains at an average level, where the majority of teachers are confident in using a computer and basic office applications, but have an average level of awareness of MOOC platforms, distance learning systems and other tools for implementing digital technologies.

The article discusses digital technologies, which are playing an increasingly important role in education, and that they need to be actively used to improve the quality of education and develop the digital literacy of teachers.
