DEVELOPMENT OF A MODEL OF PRACTICE-ORIENTED LEARNING AT A UNIVERSITY AS AN ESSENTIAL CONDITION FOR EFFECTIVE TRAINING OF SPECIALISTS

Abstract

The relevance of the research is confirmed by some objective factors that have developed in the Kazakhstan labor market, such as a discrepancy between the content of education and the needs of companies, time and money expenditures on adapting and learning of young specialists at enterprises, overdue competencies that do not meet requirements of economy innovative development, a shortage of human resources for a variety of professions. In this context, the research objective is to develop a work-integrated learning model that fosters the acquisition of practical applied skills by students. The research method in the first stage is a desk study of theoretical approaches to methods and formats of work-integrated learning. In the second stage, qualitative research was conducted through in-depth interviews with experts who specialize in work-integrated education. The result of the research was a structural-functional model of work-integrated learning, the identification of relevant approaches to organizing work-integrated learning, effective formats for interacting with partner companies, as well as weaknesses and barriers to effective work-integrated learning in local practice. The conducted research allowed to identify and systematize the following approaches to work-integrated learning: activity-competence approach, project-based learning, entrepreneurial approach, problem-oriented learning, peer-to-peer approach, Lean Startup, contextual approach, and approach based on product and technological development. The algorithm of the organization of work-integrated learning with division into target, methodological, content, studying, evaluation, and result blocks is formed. The developed model will allow to form a step-by-step process implementing work-integrated learning elements with consideration for educational program specifics.
