The ongoing socio-economic changes in society and science actualize modern educational policy in the field of formation of students' personality, capable of self-development and self-realization. Under these conditions, elementary school provides a holistic system of knowledge, skills and experience of independent activity and personal responsibility of students. The article deals with the problem of formation of self-esteem of junior schoolchildren.
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between self-esteem and academic performance among elementary school children. Methodology and methods of the study. The research is based on systemic, personal, value-methodological and activity approaches. The article includes the study of junior schoolchildren's self-esteem types and aspiration level. 107 schoolchildren took part in the study. At the establishing stage the diagnostics of the level of formation of self-esteem of junior schoolchildren was carried out. At the instructional stage, a number of pedagogical conditions were implemented to improve cognitive, evaluative and behavioral components. Results The authors define the following concepts: self-esteem, types of self-esteem, self-esteem of junior schoolchildren, level of aspiration, evaluation criteria. The program of diagnostics of the level of formation of self-esteem of junior schoolchildren is presented. The indicators (cognitive, evaluative, behavioral) and levels of formation of self-esteem of junior schoolchildren (low, adequate, overestimated) are defined. The article presents the results of experimental work on the implementation of pedagogical conditions (inclusion of junior schoolchildren in the process of self-knowledge; gradual involvement in reflexive activity; their participation in the formation of criterion evaluation) to increase the level of self-esteem of junior schoolchildren. Scientific novelty. For the first time the pedagogical conditions contributing to the increase of self-esteem of junior schoolchildren are presented. Practical significance.
