At the moment, the universities of Kazakhstan are implementing a competency-based approach in the training of specialists in technical specialties. Within the framework of the key competencies of a graduate of a technical university, intercultural communicative competence is indicated, which consists of a whole complex of interrelated and complementary subcompetences. The purpose of writing this article is to highlight part of the results of experimental testing of situational technology in the formation of intercultural and communicative competence of students of a technical university. Situational tasks are aimed at immersing students in conditions close to real everyday, academic or professional situations. As a result of its application, students' motivation to learn a foreign language increases, the studied material is fixed in freer practice, communication skills are developed and the ability to work in a team is formed. Experimental teaching of professionally oriented English using situational technology has been carried out at K.I. Satbayev KazNRTU (Satbayev University), among first-year undergraduate students with a B2 level of English proficiency. The article presents the conditions and principles for the implementation of professionally oriented foreign language education in a technical university and describes in detail one of the situational tasks. The data of questioning of 30 students from the experimental groups, in which verification of the proposed teaching technology has been carried out, are presented and analyzed. The obtained data can be used in the works of other scientists in this area of pedagogical science. The conclusions are summarized at the end of the article.
