The article deals with the formation of environmental and pedagogical competence of future teachers. The objective of this study is to diagnose the level of their ecological and pedagogical competence. Today, the development of a socio-cultural personality is one of the main problems of the development of our society. At the same time, there was a need to form an environmentally literate person in society in all respects, who knows the laws of the development of society and nature as a whole, i.e. a citizen who realizes that the history of society is closely connected with the history of the development of our nature, who is able to rationally and carefully treat the bowels of the Earth.

The purpose of this article is to study the problem of the formation of ecological and pedagogical competence of future biology teachers in the course of preparing them for their future profession. The formation of this competence of future biology teachers is studied from the point of view of the competence approach in combination with such approaches as motivational-activity, emotional-evaluative, value-semantic and aesthetic component. It is revealed that in the preparation of teaching staff in the field of biology, it is very important to use the disciplines of the component of choice in this process. Analyzing educational programs in the field of Biology, we found that in the cycle of professional disciplines there are components (educational) focused on the development of ecological and pedagogical competence of future biology teachers, but there are no academic disciplines in the analyzed curricula that are aimed at the formation of the above-mentioned competence.  The article presents a special course "Environmental education of secondary school students" for future biology teachers and determines its place in the training of future biology teachers. This course will allow students to study the features of environmental knowledge and values, the study of various processes and phenomena of the environment, as well as the basics of not only environmental education, but also education in general.
